Congratulations to all the pupils who have been taking part in the KEC Chess League matches over the past few months. Special mention to Dylan Bolger, Max Isom, Charlotte Darby and Julia Cardenas, who represented St. David’s at the League Finals held for Kildare schools at St. Brigid’s NS on the 14th of February. Our team won the semi and quarter finals and went on to compete in the final of the Shield Competition. They lost by a narrow margin here but did themselves and their school proud with their performances. Look out for their picture in the Leinster Leader!
This year was our first year to enter the Kildare Primary Debating Festival. This festival is for both 5th and 6th class. There were six of us on the team, myself (Abigail Bolger), Ryan Duffin, Stephen Crowe, Sarah French, Nadia Abdalla and Max Isom.
Our first debate was ‘Why children should NOT be allowed T.V’s in their bedrooms’. Our next debate was ‘Why climate change CAN’T be stopped’. Unfortunately we lost both of these debates but we put our heart and soul into them and really enjoyed them.
We will hopefully be entering this festival again next year.

Pupils from 5th class worked with Miss O’Shea to create artwork for the Naas Art Group’s 1916 Centenary Competition. Well done to all of the pupils, who received certificates of participation from the Committee Chairperson Anne Coleman this week. The submissions were judged in two groups and Ella Hughes & Dylan Bolger have each been awarded a first prize, which was presented to them at the exhibition opening on Wednesday evening (18th May). Isaac Almonte, Rex Dunlop, Abigail Bolger and Jacob Tuohy were also commended for their work. The exhibition is open for viewing at Naas Town Hall from Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st from 10am until 6.30pm, please stop in to have a look if you are passing!
